Part III, 2003

November 29, 2003
Long-awaited results of the Annual Trail Run at the Mendon Ponds Park have been published.

November 17, 2003
Permanent courses information has been added to the web site.
In addition, GPS is now a possibility on our permanent courses! The club has recently recorded the Latitude and Longitude of each of the controls which means that those of you who have a GPS can now use it to go out and complete the permanent courses.
More detailed information is available on the Permanent Courses page.

November 5, 2003
Night-O results have been published.

October 30, 2003
There will be a special night-O this Saturday, Nov. 1, at Mendon Ponds Park. The club hasn't held a "real" night-O for several years (the Grinch-O is at night, but it is a rather special event, as anyone who has participated knows!). We hope that many of you will come out to participate; Night-O is a lot of fun.

The courses will be ones that can be handled in the darkness reasonably well. We will be using the White and Yellow courses from the recent A-meet. The White course is all on trails, while the Yellow course can be completed by staying on trails up until the immediate area of the control, or there are a couple of places where a route choice would be to cut through the woods as opposed to taking a longer trail route.

In the interest of not having people out until all hours of the night, there will be a couple of changes from the normal meet procedure:
1. There will be a mass start at 5:30 pm (or a bit later if it isn't sufficiently dark by then).
2. There will be a strict 2-hour time limit on both courses. So if we start right at 5:30, everyone needs to be back by 7:30.

The starting location is at Stewart Lodge, which is near the beach parking lot. The courses will be slightly changed from the A-meet in that we will start right at Stewart Lodge, rather than starting across the road where the A-meet courses started.

Registration will begin at around 4:30 pm. Please contact Dick Detwiler with any questions on this meet.

September 18, 2003
September 20th is National Orienteering Day. Clubs all over the country are having meets intended to introduce newcomers to our sport. Our meet is at Highland Park in the city. The start is at the Recreation Center behind School #12 on South Avenue across from Highland Hospital. Registration begins at 11; starts are 12-2PM. With luck the hurricane or what is left of it will have moved out by then. If you have doubts whether the meet is on, call the hotline (585) 377-5650. It won't be cancelled unless conditions are considered dangerous.

As always we need help in several areas: registration, start/finish, and also crossing guards. You can work a short shift on any of these jobs before or after doing your course. Please let us know (by email or 585-442-6358) if you know you will be able to help; otherwise, approach Rick or Dayle at the meet.

Come and bring friends!

Rick and Dayle Lavine, course setters and meet directors
