Cummings nature center south of Rochester will host our next event.  There will be 3 classic courses: beginner/intermediate, short advanced and long advanced.  Start window is 10am to 11am.  There will be a String-O as well.  

Course Notes:

Saturday is going to be a beautiful day for orienteering! The area has changed a bit...the beavers have made a couple of strategic dams resulting in an increase in uncrossable swamps and more ponds. Crossing the main stream should only be done at bridges. The minor streams are relatively low or dry. Swamps are hard to identify since the water is low.

The main trails are marked, wide and mowed. There are however, numerous old logging trails and a couple of abandoned ski trails which are mapped as rides. Runners on the long course will find that the easiest way to identify them at this time of year is by the tall weeds that grow in the trail...and the absence of big trees.

There are permanent course markers near some of the controls, these should be ignored.  This is a ski-o map so the vegetation is not so reliable but if it is on the map it is there.

The Nature Center will provide a nice spot to warm up and hang out while waiting for others.  See you in the woods!
