Mendon Spring Training
Extended Until April 3
Looking for some orienteering training or a reason to go to the park? Here are 2 courses in Mendon Ponds for you to check out. They can be combined as one course if you are looking for a longer adventure. These are a throw back of the Solo-O times, complete at your own pace and time. The controls will be out for 3 weeks. The starting point is at the Lookout shelter parking lot off of Pond Rd.
The control location should have a orange streamer and a square tag (ROC Orienteering tag). If for some reason it is missing just continue on and let us know which ones are missing. Some of the trails were muddy in places but most place are dry. Some the marshes are larger than on the map. If you want to use the map as a Score-O and skip some controls that is fine by us. The A course is 4.1 km and B is 5.2 km and have a common control.

Be careful of your footing there is lots of down branches and trees. You will also encounter rosebushes and thorns, would recommend long pants and gaiters. The Swallow-wort has not sprout which is a good thing. Most of green areas you can see thru and the ground and lower bush have been browsed by the deer. You may be able to use some of the deer trail to get from point to point. You might also find some trails that are not marked on the map. Be sure to check for ticks when you finish.
Have fun.
