Course Setter Notes -
This is a hilly park. There's just no way around it. Or is there? Trails are shared-use with mountain bikers, but you're an orienteer, so feel free to go off the trails. Summertime vegetation is as thick as it gets, yet the woods are mostly wide open with great visibility. The small swampy part has some sawgrass and prickers (and swamp), but this can always be avoided with a different route choice. The big stream has low to moderate flow and can be crossed in many places without getting wet.
White course will take runners on a scenic adventure. Enjoy the views and follow streamers when you find them. The Intermediate course offers slightly more navigational challenge for those who've mastered the white course. The main route of the Peg Race is comparable to a short Brown course (very short advanced), and faster people will cover more distance and climb in this self-handicapping event.
Peg Race - Mass start. Clear and check before lining up. This is a regular orienteering course with a twist: at some of the controls you may find "pegs" (actually clothespins). There are fewer pegs than runners. If you find any "pegs" at your control, take one and go to the extra control, then proceed to the next sequential control. If there are no pegs left, just proceed to the next regular control. In that case, you might just get to the next control ahead of some of the people who went to the last extra control! Following is allowed.
Pre-packaged snacks, fruit and jugs of water/Gatorade will be available.
Don't forget to sign up to volunteer and pre-register.
See you in the woods!
